Vaccine clinic prioritises people homeless in Wolves

A pop-up vaccine clinic has been provided for people experiencing homelessness or living in temporary accommodation in Wolverhampton, as part of a joint programme by the NHS, Wolverhampton Home and local organisations including P3, Good Shepherd and St George’s Hub.

The clinic has vaccinated 150 people so far at the Good Shepherd premises in the city centre, over two days scheduled in February and April.

Local GP Dr Kam Ahmed was in charge of the clinic last Saturday and said: “Homelessness and poor health all too often go hand in hand, which means homeless people are particularly vulnerable to the harmful effects of this virus.

“Working with charities and vaccinating local homeless people is a big step that we can take to protect some of our most vulnerable residents, so the team and I were delighted to have this opportunity to make a difference.”

Sean, who is being supported by our P3 service at Bushbury Lane, was interviewed on BBC Radio West Midlands this week, as he received his first Covid vaccine dose at the clinic on Saturday.

The NHS is continuing to work with local councils, charities and community groups to spread the message about vaccination and ensure resources are in place so that people who don’t have a permanent residential address, or find it difficult to access services have equal opportunities to get protected.
