Spotlight on Sewa Day

Sewa Day is a UK-wide community organisation which P3 works with in Cheltenham. Here’s a closer look at what they do…

Sewa Day is a charity that promotes people of all faiths to come together, to do great things for others and their environment as part of a series of International Days of Volunteering or ‘sewa days’.

The concept is rooted in Indian and Sikh tradition, based on the sanskrit word ‘sewa’, meaning to sacrifice your time and resources for the benefit of others without wanting anything in return.

During the pandemic, the organisation has worked in communities across the UK doing everything from supplying PPE and treats to frontline medical staff, to organising food parcels and everyday supplies to people who need them.

In Cheltenham, P3 has benefitted from working with Sewa Day to provide emergency supplies for people experiencing food poverty, such as one family last week who were donated three weeks-worth of shopping (below).
